Presenter Announcement – Cam Smith
For Incremental Records' 'recording engineer' Cameron Smith, a band is an important entity that deserves the utmost respect, whether they're a bunch of schoolkids making their first demo or a hardened touring act making their nth record. He believes that, for the most part, a record should be an accurate document of the band in question. He believes wholeheartedly in the DIY philosophy and aesthetic. For what many engineers will charge for a single day you can record with Cam for a week. He prides himself on being able to provide bands a high quality, low budget recording with which they can do whatever they choose, whether that's take over the airwaves or press a few handmade CDRs. He has been involved in both, and is equally enthusiastic.
Cam started out recording in various residential spaces around Brisbane. Right now he's working out of West End's Browning St Studios, while building a custom recording space in Coorparoo. A few times he has recorded records at The Old Museum, or various other locations. Whatever works best to get the job done. He has recorded releases for DZ (now DZ Deathrays), Little Scout, Velociraptor, No Anchor, Loomer, Stature::Statue and lots more. He has never had a lesson on an instrument (though he's played drums, guitar and vocals in a dozen or so bands over the years), and has no real training other than the fact he's been doing this for about half his life (he's 27). In his spare time he organises shows, screenprints stuff for his bands and cooks.
