Presenter Announcement – Nick Braban

Nick Braban is a venue owner/operator and very poor musician who has trouble writing about himself in the 3rd person. Growing up on a diet of punk and metal, Nick tried ever so hard to play guitar but soon realized he did not possess a musical bone in his body. Being that Nick could not play an instrument, sucked at DJing, and could not sing, he realized to be involved in the industry he would have to take a different tack. During an abortive uni degree or two Nick began working in bars around Fortitude Valley, devouring the underground vibe of the suburb and living like a vampire.

Nick and his partner Jodie had the fine opportunity of taking over a small bar on the fringe of the precinct (barsoma) in 2008, and jumped in head-first. In debt and working hard to pay the bills, they still managed to craft a niche for the music they loved. Everything from indie-pop and acoustic acts on Wednesdays, heavier rock n roll on Thursdays, electronica and hip-hop on weekends, and anything else they liked in between. Not having a music policy centered around genres, but simply around quality has allowed a great amount of freedom, and allowed Nick to work with a large range of independent musicians and promoters from Brisbane and beyond.

Nick is now a vocal opponent of government moves to curb the nightlife of the Valley, and heavily involved with a number of community and business organizations fighting to maintain the Valley’s cultural makeup. In his spare time Nick spends all his money travelling to far-flung destinations for music festivals, and on video games for his ps3. And buying tunes too of course.
