Presenter Announcement – Nick O'Byrne
Nick has been the General Manager of the Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR) for 12 months. His work is mainly dealing with government and business on matters of policy where the independent sector is severely underrepresented and often pushed out of the market in favor of the majors. Interesting? Just ask him!
AIR also deals with the promotion of the indie sector as a whole, hosting the Australian Independent Music Awards (AIR Awards) and providing professional development to indie labels and artists Australia-wide. Nick is also a founding member of Music Victoria and is currently serving on its inaugural board. Prior this he was part of The John Butler Trio's management team and co-ordinator of The JB Seed. Even though Nick’s heart will always lie with Rock and Roll, he started in the industry studying classical music at Melbourne Conservatory and the VCA before spending a lot of time playing musically satisfying but managerially frustrating jazz and hip-hop bands. These days he still spends his down-time Melbourne playing the vibraphone or locked up in a studio writing and releasing rad electronic pop music.Nick joins UnConvention as curator for Music, Technology and Entrepeneurialism panel.
