Sounds Like Brisbane Partners with UnConvention

Brisbane label collective soundslikebrisbane is partnering with UnConvention Brisbane to support our 2011 networking event on Saturday 11th of June. Held at the Boundary Hotel in West End, a short walk or bus-trip from The Edge, the evening will be an opportunity for UnConvention attendees and representatives from local independent record labels to grab a beer, watch some music and make new connections.

Believed to be a world first, soundslikebrisbane (SLB) is bringing together the city's indie labels under the one banner - already most independent labels are represented, with more to join the fold soon.

Covering every genre from garage rock and indie, to jazz, hip-hop, country and pop, the labels define the creative melting pot that Brisbane has become. Together these labels work with dozens of artists, promoting close to 100 releases each year.

"There's no doubting that right now Brisbanes indie labels are the engine room of the local music scene, and the contribution they make should be celebrated and supported," SLB’s Craig Spann explains. "These labels are often one or two-person operations at the cutting edge of the city’s creative scene, fueling Brisbane’s reputation as one of the world's most exciting music cities."

The soundslikebrisbane.com website features fresh label and artist profiles and a range of exclusive content regularly released.

More broadly, the project provides a new network giving label operators the chance to meet, collaborate, share ideas and develop a more cohesive approach to promoting the city's music. And it is hoped the SLB collective will support an environment that encourages the establishment of more labels.

Tickets to UnConvention Brisbane 2011, including the Saturday evening networking session, are available from OzTix.
