"Un-Convention is fucking awesome, there is so much shit that passes as a voice in the music business and this feels like it is cutting to the essence of what people need to hear."
– Martin Atkins, Killing Joke / Nine Inch Nails / Author Tour:Smart, Chicago
Un-Convention is a not for profit grassroots led music conference for DIY and Independent promoters, labels, entrepreneurs, writers, technologists, innovators and artists. Specifically Un-Convention Brisbane aims to connect young and emerging practitioners with each other and; provide them with practical and achievable strategies to develop careers in and around music.
Beginning in the UK in 2008, UnConvention has inspired a global network of events in the EU, UK, India, South America and Australia with future events planned for China, Africa and North America. The inaugural UnConvention Brisbane was held June 12-13 2010 and saw 230 attendees take part in a weekend of discussion and networking around the independent music industries in Brisbane.
These strong attendance figures followed significant interest from industry, academy, arts organizations, and the general public in the grass-roots focus of the event. The quality of presenters; overwhelmingly positive press coverage, blog posts, feedback from attendees; and the degree of active participation by the audience in all panel discussions speaks to the relevance and significance of UnConvention Brisbane to our local music scenes.
The goal of Un-Convention is to bring together like-minded individuals to discuss the future of Independent music and how it will develop and flourish in the technological age. Un-Convention isn’t concerned with discovering rock-stars but instead building and enabling a community of practitioners who want to work in and around music.
Un-Convention remembers the words business and industry are prefaced by the word music.
Un-Convention doesn't believe in 'do it yourself'.
We believe in 'do it together'.
